Life isn’t just what happens TO you. Its the choices you make, and how you decide to handle what is out of your control. It isn’t easy to choose to be positive. In fact, it is much more difficult than giving in to the negative and getting dragged into the muck. But I guarantee the reward is greater, and life is sweeter, for having made that decision.

lordy have mercy…because sometimes I know what I’m about to do…and do it anyway!

Over the years we have had lots of dinner experiences that many other Americans have had… but we never shared it with all the others doing the same thing. Why? Because we were in our cars. Over time, we have nicknamed our cars to match our dining experiences. I can only remember a couple, but we had a lot of fun with it. After all, keeping a sense of humor can make anything either bearable or downright fun!

Damn Cat

When my kids were very small, we had a gray cat named Smokey. I was *not* fond of this cat. I had never been unhappy with a pet before, so it was quite a surprise to me that I actually disliked this one. But he had two really nasty habits that got to me: he ‘tinkled’ on the laundry (clean or not) and pooped in the tub. Every. Single. Day.

Yes, we tried keeping the laundry put up and the bathroom door closed. But both of those things are really hard to do when we had two small children at the time.

Every time I came across the evidence that Smokey had been up to his familiar tricks, I would mumble “damn cat!’ It’s how I felt, and was quite an apt description, since I felt I had been cursed with this animal.

My daughter, who was only about 18 months old at the time, toddled after the cat but didn’t usually seem interested in petting him. One day, in a rare event, she took the binky out of her mouth and uttered two syllables, over and over again, while looking around. I couldn’t understand her…but the tone of how she called those two syllables sounded eerily familiar.

Yup. You guessed it. She was calling “damn cat.” It was both funny and mortifying at the same time!

So now that I find myself annoyed with a cat who happens to belong to that same daughter, I try to remind myself that I shouldn’t try an encore of that experience with my grandsons. But I really, really want to curse that damn cat. …oh…oops!

Alligators can’t stick out their tongues. Good to know I won’t be mocked before I’m eaten. :0P
